So, there are only 3 people living in my household; we are not going to eat all of the food and sweets that I spend my time baking. My mom is not partial to sweets, I don’t want to get fat, and rarely eat any of the sweets I bake, and my father, well, he may have a slice or two.
So, I baked a cake the other night. It was a golden layer cake with a Bavarian cream filling and a vanilla buttercream icing. Yes, I know what you’re thinking. How yummy!! I ended up bringing the cake into work for my co-workers.
In fact, some of the responses I got on the cake are listed below (names omitted of course)
1. “OMG! It’s delicious”
2. “The cake is very good, thank you”
3. “Excellent cake”
Of course there were skeptics who were unsure of whether or not I actually baked the cake. And I had to say, my mother was a witness. One of my colleagues said the cake looked so professional and she initially thought it was store-bought. That is, until she tasted it.
One of my colleagues suggested that I open my own business. I wish; but maybe one day. I would love to work for myself. Sometimes ‘myself’ seems to be the only person I can depend on. After all, I never disappoint myself.
I will have to add that the particular recipe that I used for the cake is courtesy of Mark Bittman’s How to Cook Everything.
